Time to take action

admin February 6, 2010 Uncategorized 2 Comments

Calc VAT has now been available in the iPhone app store for almost five months, and was first released on the 1st August 2009. The application started off as a fairly simple one and took me by surprise when it quickly climbed the UK Top 100 Charts and reached the number two spot on the 30th August.

Since then a lot has changed with the application and two major versions were released, however over the past two weeks we have started to see that Calc VAT iTunes rank is slowly dropping and now it is time to take action.

The Vat Calculator application seems perfectly fine but with the help of some users on the iPhone SDK Forum I now have the following action items to take:

  • Update app icon to look better and match the application look / colors.
  • Rank Higher on Google for particular terms such as “VAT Calculator iPhone”
  • Edit the application iTunes Description – mention recent reviews.
  • Update this website with more up to date pictures of Calc VAT.
  • Create a new video of the application.

There is quite a few actions to do, and hopefully at the end we should start to see the Calc VAT rankings improve.

It would be great if apple in the future provided.

  • Analytical data – It would be great to see exactly how buyers find our applications.
  • A way to communicate with buyers.

I’m puzzled why ranking higher on Google would help you. I mean I know people could search google for an app and better position would help, but surely this wouldn’t affect your placement on the app store?

Also where would the video be seen.

You seem to be suggesting that you iPhone users will look at your web page? Won’t they still need to visit the apps store to buy your app.

I take you also mean that communicate with buyers would be via your website and not by some function in your app?

I am unsure if the Google Ranking has any real benefits with iPhone applications however as I am trying to improve the ranking and every little helps, currently if you google “iPhone VAT Calculator” my application or site appears on the first page 5 out of 10 times so it would be good to try and fill that entire 1st page with just my application.

Also I think optimising on VAT Calculator is also important, as users may just be surfing the internet to find a VAT Calculator and users may think that having an iPhone application to do the job would be a lot easier in the future.

The Video would be showed on Youtube, however I am thinking about revamping this website and having videos / more product information on the website and to keep the blog just for updates.

Regarding communications with buyers it is almost non existent with over 3,000 customers I have no way to communicate with them, I have been thinking for future versions of Calc VAT to have a one time screen to let users enter an email address to join an optional mailing list.
